He is also remembered for playing many iconic villainous roles in Hindi film industries and other Indian and foreign films. He achieved success after joining hands with Kamal Amrohi. They worked together in the 1980s in different English movies, before Amrita died.
On this day of the Bengali New Year, we pay tribute to our great actor Amrish Puri. We wish him all his best for his many admirable roles in films and television, and wish him a happy birthday. Here is a list of our top five most important Indian actors who we believe are very near or out of the reach of our lives. Our picks for the month of June to make up a perfect combination with Puri’s birthday.
Actor: Kamal Amrohi Kamal has been in the limelight ever since he made his first ever film in 1977, which was directed by Mahesh Babu. After that film, he had four more films in which he played the role of a villain, and finally ended up playing a leading character in a biopic, centered on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. On the day of Amrish Puri’s birth anniversary, we will celebrate his contribution to Indian Cinema. It was through Kamal’s movies that we saw a new breed of leaders taking center stage in Indian Cinema.
Career: Since then, Amrish has gone on to play different characters in different movies, winning an Oscar for his performance in the film, Khaleja. He later appeared in a poor Baahubali and grew into one of the most sought after stars in India. After some time, he moved to Bollywood and started to play different villain roles, but never managed to win any major award. But all this changed with the release of the movie, Aparajit, starring Ajit Chandrasek, where he finally got the recognition he deserved. After that film, producers started sending him script after script, and today, he is known for his hilarious acting roles. He has also been in some Hollywood movies, but was unable to crack the role of a villain very well.
Role: The latest Rajinis movie hero, Khushru, is a love story between a prince and a princess, played by Amrita Sher-Gil. She played by Aishwarya Rai. Aishwarya Rai and Amrita Sher-Gil both got an opportunity to act in a good movie, as they were recommended by Ranbir Kapoor. Both of them cracked the screen test for the role of parish Puri.
Hindi films are all about the Brains of the characters, whereas most of the times it is the outward looks that attract the audience towards the films. Amrita Sher-Gil is a perfect example of this. Her entrance in the film was so attractive that the directors allowed her to be a part of the film, and she did very well in it. She played the character of a Goddess and was even referred to as the divine princess. This makes her the most preferred choice among the Bollywood actresses for deriving strength from the role of a Bollywood princess.
However, her success has not stopped her from being a favorite amongst the common people. She has also been associated with some well-known characters such as Bhumika in the talk show called “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.” She also starred in the film, An Unexpected Romance, where she played the role of a sultry Sita. Other than that, Amrita has also been known to play the character of the wicked queen in the movie, Om Shanti Om.
Although Bhumika did manage to overshadow her, with her winning the Oscar for the best actress award for her role in Om Shanti Om, Amrita’s name still holds a lot of respect amongst the Bollywood audience. Most of the female actors and actresses from India have been known to play the evil henchman and the evil sister in the films, but none has been able to overshadow Amrita Puri as the perfect villain. It is because of her unique blend of acting skills, beauty and personality, that Amrita Purisar has been able to play such varied roles in her films.
