A Brief Introduction To Wireless Microphone

Although not as popular as wireless microphones, wired microphones are still in use. Most of the people go for wireless microphone rental in Los Angeles when it comes to hosting a concert or any other event. If you are planning to buy or rent or use a wireless microphone for the first time, you must read this article.

    Why Use Wireless Microphone Systems?

A wireless microphone system eliminates wires connecting the microphone to the sound system. So, the movements of the user are not restrained. It is the replacement of wired microphones in sound systems. When you are using a wireless system with a guitar, no wire is required to connect an electric or bass guitar to the amplifier.

    Components Of A Wireless System

Following are the three main components of a wireless system:

    • Input device
    • Transmitter
    • Receiver

The input device collects audio signal and sends it out by the transmitter. A microphone is one such input device. The transmitter receives audio signals from the input device and converts into radio signal. The antenna then broadcasts this radio signal. The receiver receives this radio signal and converts it into an audio signal.

    Body-Pack or Belt-pack Transmitter

The size of a body-pack transmitter is the same as the size of a packet of cigarettes. You can clip this transmitter to your belt. Or, you can also wear it on your body. You can clip a body-pack transmitter to a guitar strap. A handheld wireless microphone comes with a built-in transmitter. The transmitter is usually in the handle of the wireless microphone. This is the reason why a wireless microphone is slightly larger than a wired microphone. There are different “heads” available for wireless microphones. The transmitter of a wireless microphone requires a battery to operate.

The receiver does the job of converting the radio signal into an audio signal. There are two different configurations of wireless receivers.

A single antenna receiver utilizes one tuner and one receiving antenna. This is very similar to an FM radio. You can use single antenna receivers in many applications. However, as the user holding the transmitter moves around, sometimes this system is subjected to momentary interruptions.

If you want a better microphone performance, go for diversity receivers. This receiver has two separate antennas and two separate tuners. The receiver contains an intelligent circuit which selects the better of the two signals. As at least one of the antennas is receiving a clean signal, there is a reduced occurrence of dropout.

A missing cable is not the only thing that differentiates a wired microphone from a wireless microphone. In a conventional wired microphone, sound waves are converted into electrical audio signals. These signals travel to cable and are received by a sound system.

On the other hand, in a wireless microphone, audio signals are converted into radio signals. The transmitter sends these radio signals through the air. A sound system receives these signals. These radio signals are very similar to the signals used by FM radio and TV stations. The receiver and the transmitter are tuned to the same frequency. The receiver converts these signals into audio signals.

Whether you want to purchase or you are going for wireless microphone rental in Los Angeles, hope this article will help you.
