We are all prone to packing disasters. From forgetting to take a swimsuit for a beachy vacation, to leaving your most favorite blouse at home, we all have our regretful moments when it comes to packing the right essentials for a trip.
Once while I was visiting India, it unexpectedly became so cold in early November days that I had to search all of Delhi to find a shop that sold shawls for women. Thankfully, I found one. But you shouldn’t take the risk. Shopping is no fun when you are in dire need of something and fail to find it anywhere.
So, here is a step by step guide to what to pack for your trip, and how to do it to avoid any mishaps or serious blunders. Have fun!
Things to Consider While Packing Clothes
It is all about organizing your stuff before you set out on your journey. Organizing stuff before time will help you in looking at all your available options while having ample time around to choose. Here are few things to keep in mind:
Weather-Check
Check the weather forecast of the place you are visiting. It will eliminate the ‘what if’ element from your clothing items list.
Color Scheme Check
Keep a check on how many neutrals you are keeping. Keep the combination balanced. If you are carrying a dress in neutral hues, pack brightly colored accessories like shoes or jewelry to go with it.
Hotel Facilities
Next thing you can check is the place where you are getting the accommodation. See their website, or call if necessary, and check for ironing and laundry facilities.
Remember this rule while packing your luggage: you can take 1-quart bag with the maximum liquid quantity of 3.4 ounces. Take advantage of the toiletries offered by your lodging services. But also put in some detergent packets so that you can wash your clothes on the go.
Heaviest Items Check
Okay, so now check and see the heaviest piece of clothing in your list. And then wear it on the plane. This will save up lots of suitcase space and you can keep an extra dress just in case you spill something on the one you are wearing.
7 Essential Clothing Items to Pack
Now that you are done with the pre-packing ritual, have a look at the items below to see which ones you MUST include:
Dresses
You have to take along at least two formal wear dresses with you. Even if it is not part of the plan to go formal during the trip, you might come across a sudden dinner invitation or a party to attend. You can mix and match to make it work too.
Outwear
Like I narrated my Delhi incident, there are places where the weather can get a little extreme all of a sudden. Don’t forget to pack a jacket or a sweater for such situations.
Swimsuits
If you are going on a beach vacation, it is essential to pack your swimsuits with you, and two of them. Also, if you are staying in a 4-star or a 5-star place, you might want to indulge in an evening pool time fun, so better be prepared.
Warm Wraps/Shawl
It is wise to keep your warm wraps and shawls handy if you are going on a trip to a place where you have never gone before. In case you need one, you won’t have to shop around and waste time.
Night Suits
After a day full day of fun vacationing, who isn’t tired?! Well, you need to make your resting time more comfortable. Don’t forget to pack your favorite PJ’s, or whatever night suits make you the most comfortable at night.
Shirts and Blouses
You need three of these, just to be on the safer side. Make sure to choose the ones that can go with your jeans and shoes. Mix and match on days you are sightseeing or shopping to have different looks.
Jeans
Yes, I was saving the easiest part for the end. Pack two pairs of your favorite jeans. You can switch wearing them on alternate days. Traditional blue denim would go with anything and everything!
