Perfumes are something that both men and women wear to enhance their beauty by merely smelling good. There are hundreds and thousands of different fragrances available in the market. You can get floral scents like rose, gardenia, and fruity scents like citrus, and even the spicy ones like cinnamon. Others include musk, pine or even leather notes.
Selecting one can be a bit overwhelming because all of them have different scent notes; it has always been a hit-or-miss task. There may be one more reason that makes it difficult to choose among different fragrances – the lack of information like the concentration of scented oil, alcohol and price.
Many people seem to be confused with two famous perfumes – Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette. Here we have jotted down some differences between the two.
Difference between men’s Eau De Parfum (EDP) and Eau De Toilette (EDT)
The intensity of fragrance largely depends upon the concentration of scent in alcohol and water. Eau de Parfum has a stronger smell as compared to Eau de toilette because the concentration of oils is higher. Let’s dig a little deeper!
Eau de Parfum – The highest concentrated fragrance, EDP is derived from pure perfume. Eau De Parfum has 15% to 20% pure essence with alcohol and water base. If you want a long-lasting fragrance, you should go for Eau De Parfum. It gives a persistent smell which lasts four to five hours after a single application.
Eau de Toilette – Its name is derived from a French phrase which means “getting ready”. The concentration level of ETD is low as compared to pure perfumes. The density of perfume oil in EDT is 5% to 15%. It is the right choice if you are looking for a lighter aroma to pep up your skin which lasts up to 7 to 8 hours.
So why are the prices of EDP and EDT different?
The concentration of perfume oil in any of the perfume types decides its price. The more the perfume concentration, the longer the essence will last. And it is accompanied by a higher price. In simple words, if a perfume has a high percentage of pure essence, it is likely to be more expensive. This is why EDP is more costly than EDT.
What are the different types of fragrance other than EDP and EDT?
Other than EDP and EDT, there are three more types of fragrances which are-
Eau De Fraîche – Eau De Fraîche is considered as the lightest concentration of fragrance with 1% to 3% of perfume oil concentration. The aroma of Eau De Fraîche lasts for up to one hour. Its high alcohol content makes it more subtle.
Eau De Cologne – It is one of the traditional and the oldest terms for perfume, commonly known as men’s fragrance (since it’s often created for men). The concentration level of this perfume is 2% to 4%, which is more than Fraîche but less than perfume, EDP and EDT, which lasts around two hours. It is less overwhelming, making it a perfect option for the hot summer days.
Parfum – Parfum, also known as Perfume, has the highest concentration levels of scented oil; 20% to 30%. This is the most intense scent among all. More oil concentration mixed with fewer amounts of alcohol and water makes it last longer. The single application of the perfume stays for 24 hours, and this is what makes it the most expensive scent in the market.
Choose the right fragrance-
Studies say that men with pleasant fragrance appear more attractive and confident to women. The right perfume offers numerous benefits. But deciding between aromas may be quite challenging for some. There are indeed many factors that a man should keep in mind while choosing that right one for himself, but paying heed to tiny details does the job quite well.
