How to Encrypt UniFi Server with SSL Certificate Installation?

When we access internet the last thing that we want is to go through the entire connection process every time when we connect the RouterOS controller to the browser. This is why having the device Encrypted is quite an important aspect that we all should have an idea of. The reason behind this, as we mentioned, is nothing but the ease of going through the web without any hesitation. Moreover, encryption makes it quite easy for devices to connect to the internet; devices such as Smartphones, laptops, tablets and many more.

Though, the steps that are required to complete the encryption on Ubiquiti Networks’ products are quite hard and so, it is recommended to the users that they should work with some Professionals who have gone through Ubiquiti Training courses. For those who are good with technical terms, here is the complete process that you need to follow in order to encrypt your UniFi server with the SSL certificate installation.

    • Logging in to the SSH on the controller: The very first step that we need to follow  is to connect the SSH with the UniFi Controller. It is advised to work this through on a device that runs on Linux OS as it is easy to access the CloudKey on Linux OS. You can also connect it through the Windows OS, but then you would have to get the PuTTY configuration setup in your device preinstalled.
    • Installation of CERTBOT: Before going through this step, make sure that the ping is successful on your controller’s IP Address. If not, then restart the device. Check the ping via unifi.yourdomain.com, and if it redirects the controller perfectly then you are good to go.
    • Load up the Certificates for the UniFi Controller: Being a Java-based service, Ubiquiti Networks offer PKCS #12 certificates. So, load them up to your device with the private keys and restart the service to complete the encryption.

So, these are the three steps that you will need to perform in order to get the UniFi Server encrypted. Though the process is straightforward, some people might face issues with the installation of CERTBOT or loading up the SSL Certificates.

For those who fall in the latter category, we recommend you contact an Expert who has a Ubiquiti Certification. They will help you through the entire process, and you will get the ease to access the controller whenever you desire.
